Our annual Street Appeal happens towards the end of May every year and is something we do to raise funds and profile during Hospice New Zealand’s national awareness campaign. We know we are truly fortunate to have the support and advocacy of Hospice New Zealand and always try to maximise our benefit from any of their initiatives.
The Street Appeal is one of our busiest times of the year as we engage over 160 volunteers to take part in the collection. We are very fortunate, because we collect on two concurrent days – a Friday and a Saturday – so we can achieve good coverage of the Greater Hutt region.
Charity Street Appeals are changing as people seem to carry less cash, however we still believe they are a great way to connect with our local community and appreciate how small donations can add up. In 2016 we achieved $26,000 which was a fantastic result. These funds enable us to continue to provide palliative care free of charge to patients and their families in the Hutt Valley. Without the amazing help of local businesses and our volunteer network results like these would not be possible.
We’d love it if you were keen to ‘Put on the Hot Pink Pinny’ and be a Te Omanga Hospice Street Appeal volunteer for us in May every year.
