Retail Manager Lower Hutt Shop
My aunt died at Te Omanga Hospice and during her illness I fell in love with Te Omanga’s gardens, the warm environment, the Inpatient Unit and the amazing staff.
So nine years ago when the Manager’s job at the Lower Hutt Hospice shop was advertised, I thought it was a sign. I applied for and got the job. Back then, the Lower Hutt store was the only Hospice Shop.
The most rewarding thing about my job is that I work for Te Omanga Hospice. Many of our donors want to give back to Te Omanga for the caring service their whānau/families and loved ones received. The feedback is wonderful and we meet lots of lovely people.
Although I have been in this job for nine years, it doesn’t feel that long. Work is a pleasure and I still love it. Not many can say that.

Hospice Retail Support Manager
My background is in both the corporate and artistic worlds. A loving family, the arts, gardening, mentoring, my work and my faith, are all important parts of who I am.
After a break from the workforce to raise my two daughters, I wanted to focus on giving back to the community. This led me to volunteer at Te Omanga Hospice for several years before taking up my current role as Hospice Retail Support Manager – working between all three shops and assisting the Hospice Retail Area Manager with merchandising and training.
It is a privilege to place my energies behind such a special cause. Working across the three outlets has been a rewarding and humbling journey. To be part of the growth and its success is most fulfilling. The volunteers are true gems, offering skills in their various areas of expertise.
Working at the shops allows me to be creative, which feeds my arty side. This is balanced with the managerial responsibilities. Compassion, a sense of fun and warmth, coupled with a desire to contribute to Te Omanga underpins my work.

Retail Manager Upper Hutt Shop
I became a volunteer at Te Omanga Hospice several years after losing my closest childhood friend who had been on the Te Omanga Hospice programme.
Five years ago I took the next step and was appointed to manage the Upper Hutt Hospice Shop. I love working with the volunteers and spending time with our customers. The quality and variety of goods we get donated is just amazing. So many donors have had close ties with Te Omanga and are grateful for the wonderful care their loved ones received at the Hospice.
I feel very privileged to be part of this wonderful team.

I got involved with Te Omanga Hospice approximately 5-6 years ago, after they had cared for my late Grandfather and Aunt. I was so impressed with not only the care my loved ones received, but also the compassion and caring shown to us, as family members. I decided like many, that I wanted to give something back. Initially I got involved in Volunteering at Petone Shop (and I still Volunteer where possible).
I love working here, as it’s like being part of one ‘big family’, which provides such a lovely and essential service to the community. The atmosphere here is one of caring, and the physical environment is serene.
In my role as the Retail Driver, I often come into contact with families which have shared in the ‘hospice experience’, and it’s nice to see others wanting to ‘give back’ as well.
