Receptionists

Our Receptionist Volunteers are often the first person a patient and their family will meet at the hospice – which makes this a vital volunteer role.

We have two reception areas at Te Omanga; Southward Reception, often known as the main reception, and the Inpatient Unit Reception.

Southward Reception

This is attended in two shifts covering 9.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

The receptionists are required to perform the following duties:

  • Greet visitors and patients to Te Omanga
  • Escort visitors to the patients’ rooms
  • Answer the phone
  • Sort mail
  • Keeping the Reception area tidy and welcoming

Inpatient Unit (IPU) Reception

This is covered in two shifts from Monday to Friday.  A morning shift 8.30am to 10.00am and an evening shift from 5.00pm to 7.00pm.  On the weekend the IPU Reception is covered between the hours of 9.00 and 2.00pm.

The receptionists are required to perform the following duties:

  • Greet visitors and patients to Te Omanga
  • Escort visitors to patients’ rooms
  • Ensure visitors are restricted when requested
  • Liaise with Inpatient Unit staff
  • Answer the phone

Our Receptionist Volunteers usually attend one shift a week or fortnight on a regular rostered basis and will swap between themselves if they are not available for their regular rostered shift.  The roster for weekend reception is generally once a month.
