Physiotherapy

You may think of Physiotherapists as the people you go to for sports injuries or a bad back but Brian our Physiotherapist at Te Omanga Hospice has some specific training and skills that enable him to support you in some other ways while taking into account your individual circumstances.

Brian Phelan NZRPT – Physiotherapist

Some of the ways he can help include:

  • Assisting in the management of issues like breathlessness, pain, fatigue, muscle weakness, neurological issues and general deconditioning.
  • Educating you, your whānau and carers on how best to achieve daily activities such as getting out of bed, using stairs, and getting out and about.
  • Practical advice for your whānau and carers on how best to assist you with physical activities for example where to stand and place their hands to be of most assistance and maximise your safety and their own safety.
  • Assessing your exercise tolerance, strengths and weaknesses and designing an individualised exercise programme.
