The rebuild

From turning the first sod to moving in. Here’s how the rebuild progressed:

  • November 2017: View the floor plans of our new hospice building at Woburn Road  Floor Plans.
  • February 2018: Building work for our new hospice has begun. Biddy Harford turns the first sod for the new building. Read more here.
  • March 2018: The land is prepared for the first stage of the foundation to get underway.
  • April 2018: Cooper Cottage is moved from one end of the site at Woburn Road to the other to make way for a private garden area in front of patient rooms. Once we move back, the cottage will continue to be used as a dedicated space for our Family Support services.
  • May 2018: The big pour begins.
  • June 2018: The framing starts to go up.
  • August 2018: The framing for the first level is complete and the second level floor is poured.
  • September 2018: The framing for the second level is complete.
  • October 2018: The roof is being installed.
  • November 2018: The roof is on! A huge thank you to Silbery Roofing who donated the entire roof.
  • December 2018: Work begins on the ‘fit out’ of the hospice.
  • January & February 2019: The interior is progressing well, while outside the curbing is being laid.
  • March 2019: It’s down to the final touches now as we prepare to move back.
  • 5 April 2019: The key and new building is handed over to Te Omanga Hospice.
  • 11 April 2019: Our new building was officially opened by Robyn Gibson and Peter Cooper, family of our Founders.
  • 14 April 2019: Visit the new hospice at our Community Open Day before we move back in.
  • 30 April 2019: With the help of the NZ Army and Hammond Transport, we moved back into our new hospice and are now open for patients and families in our community.
