Family Support

Our Family Support Volunteers provide emotional support for the caregiver or other family/whānau members: for example, active listening, empathy. There is no clinical requirement for this role; it’s about establishing a friendly and supportive relationship.

You will have contact with the patient by phone or you may be asked to sit with them for a while so their carer can go to an appointment or do the groceries.

A Volunteer will usually only have one assignment at a time and the commitment can vary from patient to patient, but would average approximately 1 to 2 hours per week.

Support is available to the Volunteer through our network of Family Support professionals.

If you are interested in a Family Support role you will be required to attend a one day course “Essentials of Palliative Care for Volunteers.”

Our Volunteer Services Team is happy to talk with you if you are interested in finding out more about how you can help. Please call Rachel on 04 974 8121 or email
