Te Omanga’s Inpatient Unit (IPU) is a ten bed facility staffed by registered nurses, health care assistants and volunteers. Patients are admitted to IPU for symptom management, or they may come from hospital as an interim stop-over for assessment before going home.
An IPU Volunteer is an essential part of the IPU team. In this role you will assist the nursing team to supplement the patient’s care.
IPU Volunteers need to be able to work well in a team, have an easy open style of communication, and be approachable, warm and punctual.
IPU Volunteers will be required to complete the one day course “Essentials of Palliative Care for Volunteers.”
Our Manager of Volunteer Services, Janice Henson, is happy to talk with you if you are interested in finding out more about how you can help. Please call Janice on 04 566 4535, Option 2 or email Janice.Henson@teomanga.org.nz.
