Living Well Assistants and Volunteer Drivers

Living Well Assistants

Living Well is a programme for patients who are living at home.  Each week on a Wednesday they come to Te Omanga between 10.30am and 12.30am to spend time together enjoying a mix of activities, entertainment and fellowship. This programme is currently on hold due to limited space and will commence again once we rebuild our new hospice.

As a Living Well Assistant you will spend time alongside our patients in a fun, creative environment, as they endeavour to have a ‘break’ from their illness.

Te Omanga knows how important this role is so all Living Well Assistants are required to attend the one day course “Essentials of Palliative Care for Volunteers.”

The Living Well Assistant’s role involves:

  • Preparing meals and tidying up afterwards
  • Involvement in activities with patients
  • Joining in with occasional patient outings

Some experience in craft making would be helpful but is not essential.

We have a roster of drivers who drive our patients to the Living Well programme and back home again.  If you hold a clean, current Drivers Licence and think you would enjoy getting to know some very special people, then a role as a Volunteer Driver may be just what you are looking for.

Our Manager of Volunteer Services, Janice Henson, is happy to talk with you if you are interested in finding out more about how you can help.  Please call Janice on 04 566 4535, Option 2 or email
